Tis the Season

I know we all get busy this time of the year, so no excuses, but since I have not posted in two weeks, I do have a lot of ground to cover.

1) I saw King Kong yesterday. I was expecting the movie to just blow me away. Several reviews that I read made this sound like one of the best movies ever made, and in a way it was. The effects are phenomenal! You fall in love with the Gorilla, which was hard to do in the original when the ape was made out of clay and dog fur. But the movies feels like four hours rather than three, it moves sort of methodically toward the tragic end, maybe it is the fact that we all know that Kong dies in the end (Ooops, hope I did not ruin that for anyone) but I think that the movie just took too long in the jungle to get anyplace. Too many bugs and dinosaurs distract from the storyline, though they are good effects. So, long story short, see the movie, it is good entertainment, but I was expecting more than I got.

2) My wife and I were having a good run there about five or six weeks ago; kids with new toys and all of that. But, unfortunately, I have to report that the well has once again run dry. We did great during one menstrual period and since she had her femininely time, we have not made love once. Her time is about to start again, so likely no fun next week. I hope that next month we can find that spark again. Lord knows I have been trying to rekindle things.

3) I have not written about D in a long time. She is still sitting in the office right next to mine. As I mentioned the last time I wrote about her, I don’t want to cheat or put myself in a position to cheat, so I have tried not to kindle my fascination with her. We have been working together on a variety of different projects recently, so this has been for the best. However, I did want to write about something that happened this week while it is fresh in my mind.

At various times throughout the year, but particularly during the holidays, brokers come in from Wall Street to entertain our office. On Tuesday night this week, we had a broker come in who has been a friend of mine for several years. He arrived into town and came over to our office. D and I were working on a very important presentation that we would be giving to the rest of the office the following day. We had been working on it in a high-pressure situation for over a week and were just putting the finishing touches on it when the broker, R, arrived. R spent time talking to the rest of the office to let us finish and as we finished it was time for the office to head to the Plaza for a very nice dinner at R’s Firms expense. Since D and I both live close to the office and in the opposite direction from the Plaza, I drove R, D and I to the Plaza where we would meet the rest of the office.

R is a great guy so the conversation flowed in the car, talking about old times and friends, things going on in the market and in world news. It was a fun half hour trip. Dinner was delightful (and long). The wine flowed freely and the whole office (well, all 8 of the 10 of us in attendance) had a blast. As the meal was breaking up, R, D, and I started to head out of the restaurant to walk back to my car. We walked out of the restaurant to find a cool and steady rain falling. If you happened to take the link above, you would have seen a small picture of the Plaza outlined in 47 miles of Christmas lights, let’s just leave it that talking and laughing while walking in the rain under the Christmas lights was a disarmingly romantic experience. As we were walking to my car, R pleaded with us to go out for a drink. He had an early flight back to NYC, but did not want to go back to lonely hotel room. Well, it not take any arm twisting for D and I to agree to a drink.

We went to the upstairs wine bar of a fairly trendy restaurant where we quickly captured some prime couch space and reviewed the drink menu. D spotted a drink she and her husband shared on a recent trip to Italy, Lemoncello . So we toasted our health and the holiday season with a round of Lemoncello. I have to say, it was a little sweet for me, but I think I will make a batch and cut down on the sweetner. Absent being a bit sweet, it was damn good (and strong!). After the Lemoncello kicked things up a notch, I switched to my drink, Scotch and continued to enjoy the evening.

Time quickly passed and eventually it was time to drop off R at the hotel and for D and I to head home. R’s hotel was on the Plaza so D and I had the ride home to ourselves. There was nothing nefarious about our conversation or actions on the way home, but was an easy, flowing, fun conversation. I eventually dropped D off at her car at the office. As I said, we did not do anything wrong, but there was just enough aura magic in the evening that I am going to have to work to re-break that fascination with D.
